What does the name Alina mean?

Alina has several separate origins, as Wikipedia notes. Wiktionary takes it from Italian Alina or as a Latin-style form of French Aline, a pet form of Germanic names such as Adela and Adeline that begin with adal, 'noble'. Wikipedia adds that it has been used in Scotland as a feminine of Alistair (Alexander) and linked with Gaelic álainn, 'beautiful', and that some uses have Arabic or Slavic roots. It is common across Eastern Europe as well as in Spanish- and English-speaking countries.
