Baby name styles, measured

Most "style" lists are someone's opinion. These are computed from the popularity curve of every name since 1880, with the rule printed on each page, so a "vintage" name really was popular a century ago and a "unisex" name really is given to both girls and boys.

  • Vintage revival

Names that were popular in the early 1900s, all but disappeared by the late 20th century, and are rising again now. 65 names.

  • Truly unisex

Names given to both girls and boys in real numbers, measured by the actual split of US babies, not by how a name sounds. 34 names.

  • Timeless

Names used steadily in every decade for a hundred years, never a craze and never forgotten. 20 names.

  • New since 2001

Names that first appeared in US records this century and are already given to hundreds of babies a year. 98 names.
