What does the name Antonio mean?

Antonio is the Italian and Spanish form of Anthony, from the Roman family name Antonius. DMNES calls the family name possibly Etruscan and gives no meaning, and Wikipedia agrees that it is probably Etruscan. DMNES notes that the 4th-century Egyptian Saint Anthony gave his name to several medieval religious orders, and it lists many later saints named Anthony, which helped make the name widespread in Catholic Europe.

How sure is this? Not documented. The Roman family name Antonius is of unknown, probably Etruscan, origin.
