What does the name Belinda mean?

Belinda is of uncertain origin. Wiktionary takes it as a literary coinage from belle or bella, "beautiful", with a Latin-looking ending -inda; Wikipedia also mentions a possible Old High German name Betlinde, whose second part may mean "linden tree" or "soft". The name owes its popularity to Alexander Pope's poem The Rape of the Lock (1714), whose heroine is Belinda; a moon of Uranus is named after her.

bella (Italian, “beautiful (possible source)”)

How sure is this? Uncertain. No documented etymology; both a coinage from "bella" and a Germanic name have been suggested.
