What does the name Beulah mean?
Beulah is a Hebrew word, bəʿulah, meaning "married" or "espoused". In Isaiah 62:4 it is a new name promised to the land of Israel, which will no longer be called "desolate". The King James Bible left the word untranslated as Beulah, and the Puritans took it up as a girls' name. It gained a spiritual sense of a peaceful promised land through John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress and later hymns, and it was a common American name around 1900.
