Boone is a surname used as a first name. In the US its best-known bearer is Daniel Boone (1734 to 1820), the frontiersman and folk hero of the settlement of Kentucky, and Wiktionary lists many American places called Boone. Wiktionary records the surname but gives no origin for it, and we had no access to an edited surname dictionary. Proposals in popular name books (a Norman place name, or Old French bon, good) could not be confirmed, so we do not give a meaning here.

How sure is this? Not documented. Surname origin not documented in the sources we could check; needs a surname dictionary (Reaney & Wilson, DAFN).
