What does the name Dax mean?
Dax is a short, modern-sounding boys' name whose origin as a given name is not documented. Wiktionary lists Dax only as a town in southwestern France, whose name comes through Occitan Dacs from the Roman name Aquae Tarbellicae, "waters of the Tarbelli." There is no evidence that American parents take the name from the town; it is more likely chosen for its sound, like Max and Jax. We therefore do not give it a meaning.
How sure is this? Not documented. No source documents Dax as a given name; the French town is the only recorded source of the word.
Related names: Daxton, Jax, Max.
