What does the name Guadalupe mean?

Guadalupe is a Spanish name from Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Marian title associated with a shrine in Extremadura, Spain, and with the Virgin's appearance to Juan Diego near Mexico City in 1531, which made it one of the most important names in Mexico. The Spanish place name is from a river; its first part is usually taken to be Arabic wādī 'river, valley', and the rest is of uncertain origin. It is used for both girls and boys; Lupe and Lupita are pet forms.

وَادِي (wādī) (Arabic, “river, valley”)

How sure is this? Probable. The Arabic wādī part is the usual view; the second element is uncertain.
