What does the name Ingrid mean?

Ingrid comes from the Old Norse Ingiríðr, a short form of Ingfríðr, made of the god's name Ing (Yngvi) and fríðr, "beautiful, beloved". DMNES notes that the first element is of uncertain origin but probably the god's name, and lists a 12th-century Norwegian queen and a Swedish saint named Ingrid. The actress Ingrid Bergman made it known in the US, where it was most popular in the 1960s and around 2000.
