What does the name Julio mean?

Julio is the Spanish form of Julius, the name of the Roman family of Julius Caesar. In Spanish, julio is also the word for July. DMNES calls the family name of uncertain origin: Romans themselves connected it with a Greek word for downy-bearded, which has little evidence, and another proposal links it with Jove (Jupiter). In the US, Julio has been used since the late 19th century.

Iūlius (Latin, “Roman family name (origin uncertain)”)

How sure is this? Uncertain. DMNES: origin uncertain; 'downy-bearded' was a Roman folk explanation, and a link with Jove is a modern hypothesis.

Other explanations you may read: Means 'youthful' or 'downy-bearded'. The Romans thought so, but DMNES says there is little evidence..
