What does the name Yahir mean?

Yahir is a Spanish spelling of the Hebrew name Yaʾir (Jair), as Wiktionary notes, meaning 'he will shine' or 'he will give light', from the root ʾ-w-r 'light'. In the Bible Jair is a descendant of Manasseh who captured towns in Gilead (Numbers 32:41). The spelling Yahir became popular in Mexico and the US in the early 2000s, when the Mexican singer Yahir rose to fame on the TV show La Academia.

יָאִיר (Yaʾir) (Biblical Hebrew, “he will shine”)אוֹר (or) (Hebrew, “light”)

How sure is this? Probable. The Hebrew name is clear; the singer's role in the spelling's popularity is a reasonable inference from timing.

Related names: Jair, Yair, Jairo.
