What does the name Casper mean?

Casper is a spelling of Caspar, the name Western Christian tradition gives to one of the three Magi who visited the infant Jesus; the Gospels themselves do not name them. Wiktionary traces Caspar to an Iranian word for 'treasurer', which also appears in Hebrew as gizbar, and Wikipedia gives the same 'treasurer' meaning, though the exact path into the medieval name is uncertain. Casper and Kasper are the usual Scandinavian and Dutch forms, and Jasper is the English form.

*ganǰabara- (Old Median (Iranian), “treasurer”)גִּזְבָּר (Biblical Hebrew, “treasurer”)

How sure is this? Probable. The 'treasurer' derivation is standard, but how it became the Magus's name is unclear.
